Bring on the Brassica Veggies!
Students will read about various vegetables in the Brassica family and answer comprehension questions. Students will test recipes using Brassica vegetables and determine their favorites. Students will use Brassica vegetables in art projects.
Build a Burger
Students explore the components of a hamburger and build models of their own to create a balanced, nutritious meals.
The Chemistry of Butter
Students will read about butter and conduct experiments to observe chemical reactions and changes in properties in milk.
Fit With Fiber
Students will read and discuss background and vocabulary, then will use cereal boxes to graph and calculate the mean, median and mode for data collection. Graphs will be utilized to plot data. Students will analyze cereal box labels to determine the nutrient content, they then will list each ingredient and cereal in a health category based on the profile of the cereal. Students will use recommendations from My Plate to demonstrate an understanding of the functions of fiber in the body and make suggestions for increasing fiber in the diet.
Food for Keeps
Student explore food preservation methodsand make beef jerky.
Fresh From the Farm
Student learn about farmer's markets and complete a survey to learn what kinds of produce is grown by local farmers and gardeners.
Fruit or Vegetable?
Students explore the differences between fruits and vegetables from different perspectives and develop their own definitions.
Got Gluten?
Students will conduct scientific demonstratons to compare the presence of gluten in different kinds of flour.
What is Gluten?
Students read and compare two articles about gluten and research to form their own opinions.
Hogs On A Diet
Students identify an assortment of feed grains and learn the importance of eating a variety of foods, both for themselves and for farm animals.
Hot Off the Grill
Students will observe the amounts of bacteria in Petri dishes inoculated with hamburger meat that has been cooked to different temperatures. They will also learn that cooking hamburgers to the recommended temperature of 160° F (71° C) will kill pathogenic bacteria.
How to Pick the Best (Grades 3-5)
Students will learn where common fruits and vegetables are grown and learn how to choose the best quality.
An International Menu
Students use dictionaries to research etymologies and explore the diverse origins of common foods we eat.
A Journey Through the Digestive System
Students use math and science skills while taking a journey through the digestive system.
Macaroni Math
Students use assorted dry pasta in a variety of math problems.

A Mixed Bag
Students construct a "feed bag" representing the components included in a horse's feed and learn that, like humans, animals need a variety of foods for good nutrition.
Oklahoma Stone Soup
Students learn about soups around the world and make Oklahoma Stone Soup while acting out an Oklahoma version of the story.

Pancakes, Please (Grades 3-5)
Students will read about Pancake Tuesday, summarize the reading page, research pancakes from other countries and cultures and participate in a pancake race. Students conduct experiments, solve math problems and conduct research related to pancakes. Students will perform hands-on activities to understand how leavening agents work in a chemical reaction to make pancakes.

Pancakes, Please (Grades 6-12)
Students will read about Pancake Tuesday, conduct further research and write a short play about the event for Pre-K - 2nd grade students and organize a pancake race for those students. Students will learn about pancakes in other cultures and choose one pancake and culture for in-depth research. Students will perform hands-on activities to understand chemical reactions with leavening agents which produce carbon dioxide in baked foods. Students will extract yeast from common foods. Students will apply mathematical principles to increase and decrease a recipe to produce the number of servings needed.

Students will learn about different kinds of peas that grow in Oklahoma. Students will identify the parts of the vegetables we eat as root, fruit or leaves. Students will use peas in pod for a variety of math activities. Students will compare and contrast different versions of the story “The Princess and the Pea.” Students will grow peas.

Students brainstorm, web, gather data and graph pizza topping preferences.
Pizza Portions
Students read about pizza in groups and answer comprehension questions. Students use math skills to find what percentage of daily caloric intake is consumed when eating pizza.

Students learn to understand the nutrition labels on different foods and be prepared to make healthier food choices.

Students create books showing the main ingredients of a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.
