National Weights and Measures Week

Photo

National Weights and Measures Week commemorates the anniversary of the date when President John Adams signed the first weights and measures law in the US on March 2, 1799. The week of March 1-7 was set aside to make the public aware of this important service.

In Oklahoma the Oklahoma Department of Agriculture, Food and Forestry Consumer Protection Services oversees weights and measures. The purpose of the program is to protect consumers and businesses by ensuring that commercial weighing and measuring devices are serviced properly and perform within acceptable tolerances. Package commodities are inspected for net quality, method of sale, proper labeling and to make sure the correct price is charged. Celebrate National Weights and Measures Week with these AITC resources.
